Montessori Teaching Certificate

The Montessori Teaching Certificate may be earned as a non-degree credential program with no college credit.

Courses are awarded as Continuing Education Units or CEUs.  CEUs are generally not transferable to other institutions.

Montessori Upper Elementary Certificate (ages 9-12)

Students taking this level must have completed all methods courses in the Lower Elementary certificate either at Westminster or in another MACTE-approved program.  Students who have already completed a year’s supervised practicum as part of their Lower Elementary certificate do not need to repeat the practicum as part of the Upper Elementary level.  Students who have not yet completed a year’s supervised practicum in an elementary classroom will do that as part of the Upper Elementary program.

II. Teaching Practicum  9

 Montessori Administration Certificate

The Montessori Administration Certificate focuses on school leadership, along with knowledge of school management and Montessori pedagogy, to create an exemplary and sustainable Montessori school.

Admission Requirements

The Institute for Montessori Innovation will offer its Montessori Leadership Program to any individual who meets college and campus admission requirements and also meets the Special Admission Requirements for the Montessori Leadership Program.

Special Admission Requirements for the Montessori Leadership Program:

  1. A minimum of a Baccalaureate degree.
  1. Applicants must meet one (or more) of the following three criteria:
  • Must hold an approved and valid state license or certificate for school administration
  • Be a currently practicing or experienced school administrator with at least three years experience as an administrator; or
  • Be in process of completing a state recognized collegiate program leading to license as a school administrator or equivalent required by state/school.
  1. Applicants must be able to present demonstrated administrative ability to include school finance, legal, licensing, curriculum administration, personnel and supervision, program planning, and evaluation.

Students take at least 13 credit hours of Montessori methods courses. At least one course must be taken in each of the age levels (Early Childhood, Elementary I, Elementary II).  The courses must total 200 clock hours.
